These are just some of the memories I have of my gap year spent in the Dominican Republic 2005-2006.

It was an amazing experience, I met some wonderful people who as soon as they met me invited me into their homes and shared with me what little they had.

Teaching English in a primary school was a major part of my year but it proved to be so much more than that.

I helped translate for visiting missionary groups....
,
travelled around the country....
built a basketball court....
ate freshly picked mangos from the tree and learnt to cook Dominican style.

The money I was kindly given from the Ipswich Catenian Bursary fund helped make this possible and I sincerely thank them for that and encourage anyone thinking about taking a gap year or volunteering in a developing country to definitely go for it as I'm sure the experience will be one you remember forever.
